Get a certificate of employment
Employees generate a certificate of employment themselves from the Requests page in the Employee Portal, and print it or save it as a PDF.
Generate it
- In the Employee Portal, open Requests.
- Choose Certificate of Employment.
- The certificate opens in a new tab. Use Print / Save as PDF.
There is no approval step. It is produced straight from your employee record.
What it contains
- The company name and address
- Your name, and the date you were hired
- Your position and department
- If you have separated, the effective date of separation, written in the past tense
- A standard statement that it is issued for whatever legal purpose it may serve
It does not state salary. If a bank or embassy asks for compensation, HR issues a separate document.
If something is wrong
The certificate reads from the employee record. If the hire date, position or department is wrong, ask HR to correct the record first, then generate the certificate again.
Questions people ask
Does HR need to approve a certificate of employment?
No. It is generated immediately from the employee record.
Does the certificate show salary?
No. It states the hire date, position and department, and the separation date if the employee has left.
Can a former employee get one?
Yes, for as long as they can sign in. The certificate then includes the date of separation and uses the past tense.
