What is Certificate of employment?

A document issued by an employer stating that a person worked for the company, with the dates of employment and the positions held.

Under DOLE Labor Advisory No. 06 of 2020 an employer issues a certificate of employment within three days from the request of a current or former employee. It need not state the reason for leaving or the salary unless the employee asks.

HR teams issue it most often during final pay and clearance, and it is required for loan applications and new job applications.
